| Name: | Pietro Maximoff |

{like QUICKSILVER;}
| canon character/series: Pietro Maximoff ("Quicksilver") / Marvel Universe name: Pietro Maximoff age: 30 gender: Male race/ethnicity: Eastern European / Caucasian sexuality: Straight appearance: Pietro is a tall, fairly sturdy looking man; however, there is often something of a fidgety look about him due to his "mutant" abilities. He rarely enjoys staying in one place for more than one period of time; he is extremely fit, agile and athletic, and his appearance seems to be largely kinetic - there is always something about him which is moving, all the time, whether it be his person or his mind, and that is conveyed in his appearance. He has no tolerance for inertia in being. He dresses in a smart-casual way regardless of occasion - he's not the type to wear suits, but he's certainly also not the type to slob around in jeans and hooded sweatshirts all the time. He tends to dress in black, or silver and blue, in similar colours to his eyes and hair: Pietro was born with silver-white hair; while this might in theory give him the look of someone a little older than he actually is, this is actually not true - in fact, if anything he looks far younger than his thirty years. This is a trait shared by his twin sister, Wanda (who looks absolutely nothing like him, interestingly enough) but for Pietro this is probably due to the fact that he practically vibrates with energy due to what might be known as a "mutant" power - Pietro has superhumanly fast reflexes and is an extremely fast runner. He has steel blue eyes, which can often seem calculating; this may also relate to his 'speed' of being, as Pietro thinks as fast as he runs. personality: Pietro's personality is dominated by an intolerance for those who do not move as fast as he does - the whole world as he sees it fits into that category. The world moves too slowly for him, and so because of this he seems quick-tempered and impatient, often speaking far too fast for most people to keep up with. It might be commented that because of this, a pirate ship might not seem the best place for such a person, but a primary factor in Pietro's life is, of course, his sister. Wanda is one of the few people Pietro loves and tolerates indiscriminately despite their faults or changing attitudes; he is extremely protective of her, and has been known to attack either verbally or physically those who do her wrong. He knows full well that she is dependent on him, and while he is not as dependent upon her for his own personal need, he has grown far too used to being needed by her, and in this way it might be said that the two of them are co-dependent. Pietro is consistently supportive of his sister, particularly when she is truly in need of it, and is also aware that he is the decision-maker; because of this, he factors in decisions that would be best for her well-being. This meant he took the initial decision of them boarding a pirate ship, and continued to maintain this viewpoint through their various trials at sea. However, it was not only for Wanda that he took this decision; while it is true that on some days life on the sea would be slow for Pietro, he and Wanda are by nature and uprising nomads - they were raised by Romani gypsies. While he is gentle, kind and compassionate toward his sister, to most others Pietro acts impudently and arrogantly, seeming to have a dislike for most people in general. He is perfectly happy at the present time for his world to be primarily based about his sister's needs, and anyone who would seek to get in the way of this Pietro would see as an enemy. Nevertheless, this does not mean that Pietro does not have his own moral compass - he too seeks positive influence in his life and compassion from others, although he would never admit it, and prefers not to be involved in acts of pure brutality. He has a deep and founded dislike for nameless 'powers' which govern immorally, which is likely also a factor in his decision - however, those who offer him positive influence and praise, he tends to be fairly loyal to, almost to a fault. However, due to his personality, which is prickly to say the least, this does not happen very often. abilities/weaponry: Pietro's primary 'ability' would be his mutant power - his bordering-on-superhuman speed of motion, agility, reflexes and speed of thought. This makes him a very efficient character, and would also make him a superior fighter, yet he has serious issues with grunting idiots who use brute force to get their way - Pietro finds brute violence, as in wrestling and the use of guns and blades, banal, preferring to outspeed his opponents if necessary and merely take them by surprise and knock them over with whatever is in reach of his hand if there is no other option. To wit, he is one of the scariest type of 'bar brawler' in this mood - he will use anything. He does not carry a weapon, as his arrogance and his ability dictates to him that he does not need one, and will only attack a person without personal provocation if that person happens to be harassing, threatening or indeed coming onto his sister. Protectiveness of Wanda has driven him before into performing acts that he might rationally see as ridiculous, but that does not mean he stops doing them by any stretch of the imagination. weaknesses: Pietro's first and primary weakness has to be his sister. She is so important to him, and so dependent on him, that his feeling of responsibility for her comes above all else; because of this, anyone who wished Pietro to do exactly what they told him to do would merely have to hold Wanda to ransom and he would be quite literally putty in their hands. Secondly, his speed of thought as already said leads him to speak quickly also; furthermore, when making on-the-spot decisions sometimes his talent causes him to overthink, not taking the most obvious decision (which is sometimes the best decision) because he has had too much time to think about it. Due to this, he does rarely make an abundantly wrong decision, causing more harm than good. Thus, further time to think about issues many people would not have enough time to think about can be both a strength and a weakness for him. Also, he can be naively loyal at times to those who have shown him or his sister kindness despite his naturally calculating nature; thus opening him to manipulation. history: Pietro Maximoff, son of Erik Magnus Lensherr and Magda Maximoff, was born on Mt. Wundigore in Transia along with his twin sister, Wanda. The non-identical twins were abandoned by their mother quickly after birth, the woman committing suicide after leaving her children with a half-cow, half-human hybrid named Bova. After an unsuccessful foster by a man named Bob Frank, who had just lost his own children and wife and turned out not to appreciate the reminder of his loss, the twins were passed on to Django and Marya Maximoff, who took in the twins as their own and raised them. Django and Marya were Romani gypsies, and also very good to the two children, who lived happily with them for some years. Unfortunately, by the time they hit adolescence, both children were exhibiting 'unnatural' or 'mutant' abilities, and the Maximoffs were becoming very low on money - the continuing domination of the Power over the rest of the planet made it very difficult for one to earn a living, honest or not, in any other place. With these deteriorating conditions taken into Django had taken to thievery in order to feed his wife and children, and Pietro followed his example in order to give as much help as he could in looking after them all; of course through this illustrating to those around him his ability to move much quicker than the normal person can. However, this was not entirely noticed; their unveiling as not-entirely-normal people came when a Transian boy attempted to molest Wanda, and she revealed her powers in order to defend herself. With this seen, a mob descended on the home of the Maximoffs; Django was clubbed to death, and their wagon burned. Pietro and Wanda fled, living a nomadic life, wandering from place to place; along the way, Wanda met a woman named Agatha Harkness who could teach her more about her powers, and Pietro of course stayed with Wanda so her sister could learn more about her abilities. Eventually, Agatha too was murdered, and the twins had to flee again. After that, they made the decision to move out to sea - joining the crew of the Black Abbey, captained by none other than their own father, Erik Magnus Lensherr. Pietro found himself uncomfortable at best on the ship, mainly because one member of the crew in particular was attempting sexual advances toward his sister; this was not something Pietro was going to tolerate, and Wanda certainly wasn't happy about it either. Furthermore, Pietro began to realise he found the brutish methods and insipid intellects of those in Lensherr's 'Brotherhood' banal and irritating. They did stay on the ship for some years, mainly due to the fact they had been moving about so much previously, but Pietro was to all intents and purposes rather glad when they moved on. They moved to a different ship, the Revenge; there, much to Pietro's great dislike, Wanda did her best to settle down with another crewmember, having children with him. Pietro wasn't jealous, as such; rather more protective, and worried about being alone if he were replaced by his sister. Otherwise, the ship was far more attuned to Pietro's tastes than the previous one - there were a lot of odd people not entirely unlike them on board, so it was a more comfortable situation. However, calamity struck once again and the Revenge began to be struck with several different instances of bad luck - when it came out that it was Wanda subconsciously using her powers to effect on the ship's good luck, she attempted to raise the dead (including her lover) but this was a massive failure, and Pietro was left with the choice of whether to flee now or wait for retribution toward his sister from the crew. Eventually, he took the decision to remove them from the area instead of fighting it out with people that even he had begun to grow fond of, and so the twins fled. With that done, they decided to try again with a new ship and a new life; applying to join the crew of the Cheap Prayer. crew position: "Strategist", possibly, due to the aforementioned gift of thinking much faster in oncoming situations than most. |
